I come from the Arab world and moved to the UK with no English at all. I started working as a kitchen porter, then as a chef, and held various jobs before becoming a lecturer in media and languages at the University of Manchester while undertaking a PhD there. Since childhood, I dreamed of becoming an actor, but life took me in different directions before I returned to performance. Comedy grew naturally from my experiences of migration, language, cultural misunderstandings, and the contradictions of everyday life, which I now turn into stories and observations on stage.
