Emin Afandi
I am Emin Afandi, a Berlin-based Azerbaijani comedian whose comedy combines everything: identity, politics, sexuality, immigration, marriage, culture clashes.Someone once described my comedy as “a dark room ...you don’t know what you’re going to get, but you know you will come out satisfied.” It was a lovely compliment, because I enjoy both: dark rooms and comedy.
As a comedian, I do not place myself neatly on one side of any debate. My motto in life is logic and positivity. Through my comedy, I criticise both sides, question everyone, and make fun of everyone. No one is safe , but everyone is invited to laugh.
What defines me most is that I genuinely love laughter: laughing at myself, laughing with the audience, and creating a room where people from completely different backgrounds can laugh together.
I am a regular performer at Cosmic Comedy Berlin, one of Berlin’s biggest and most established English-language comedy scenes, and I also regularly perform at Propaganda Comedy. I have opened for Gauri B and have performed at The Comedy Store London as part of King Gong, the club’s famously brutal open-mic night. In London, I also performed at The Blackout at Up The Creek Comedy Club in Greenwich, where I became a runner-up.
I also created and run my own comedy competition show, WorldVision Comedy Contest ,a show that is much more than comedy. Inspired by Eurovision, it combines stand-up, live audience voting, music, dancing, national chaos, and full theatrical energy. The show has sold out in Berlin and Prague, and it continues to grow as an international comedy event.
By day, I work in international business; by night, I turn cultural trauma, political confusion, and personal contradictions into punchlines. My comedy is dark, sharp, international, queer, and unapologetically honest ,but always built around one simple goal: to make people laugh together.
