I’m Aileen Garven — a Scottish veteran, executive headhunter, sober woman, choir singer, ukulele enthusiast and increasingly confident stand-up comedian. In other words, I’ve spent most of my life collecting identities and fitting neatly into none of them. I’m Scottish but live in Essex, ex-Army but never entirely civilian, confident yet frequently confused, and more hench than bonnie. My comedy is warm, honest and joyfully self-deprecating, finding the funny in ageing, sobriety, sexuality, family and being permanently caught in life’s Venn diagram. I’m the woman who never quite fits — and I’ve finally realised that’s exactly where my best material lives.
