A month after it was postponed, she told CTV News Toronto she hadn’t heard a word from the organisers about the money. The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival’s Mississauga weekend had been set for Erindale Park, near the University of Toronto Mississauga, from 11 to 13 September. In the same 11 October report, CTV noted that the festival states online that it does not provide any refunds or exchanges.

This is a follow-up to the piece we ran when the Mississauga dates fell over. The honest update is that from the ticket buyer’s side of the glass, nothing has moved. Organisers announced on 8 September that the festival was being postponed, without giving a clear reason. That came a day after they emailed ticket holders everything they needed to know ahead of the weekend. That statement said the team’s “priority is to deliver the best possible festival”.

As of 17 October, the festival’s own Mississauga page is still headed Festival Postponement. It still refers to “the difficult decision to postpone” the September show, and it still carries no new dates.

Is the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival refunding Mississauga tickets?

Not under its own published terms. The refund policy says “All tickets are final sale and cannot be exchanged or refunded”. Immediately after that it says “If a show is rescheduled, all tickets will remain valid for the new date.” Put those two lines together and a Mississauga ticket is still a valid ticket, valid for a show with no day, month or year attached to it. The Mississauga page itself asks buyers to “please stay tuned”, on the basis that the festival will be following up directly. I’ve read a great many promoter statements this year, and “stay tuned” commits the writer to nothing while sounding like a plan. It’s still sitting there today.

There’s a practical reason this matters more than the usual terms-and-conditions grumble. A buyer chasing $394 has to win an argument about one word in the 8 September statement, and whether the lineup justified $197 a head for two VIP passes never enters it.

The 90-day clock only starts when someone writes cancelled

The policy does contain a refund timetable, and this is where the postponement label earns its keep. The wording is that the festival strives “for refunds to be completed within 90 days of cancellation notice”. The commitment hangs off a cancellation notice. A postponed show, by the same document, keeps every ticket alive for a future date instead. The refund window never opens while a show sits in the waiting room, because those 90 days run from a cancellation notice nobody at the festival has issued.

There’s a third clause worth reading twice if you bought for one name on the poster, because it anticipates exactly this situation. The wording: “Line-up and show schedule are subject to change, including the postponement of headliners to future festival dates.” Somebody drafted that sentence having already lived through a headliner dropping out at four in the afternoon.

Richard Powers is an associate professor at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. He gave CTV News Toronto the blunt reading of where that leaves a buyer:

a contract is a contract

CTV said it repeatedly contacted the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival for that 11 October report and did not hear a response. Whether that silence is a staffing problem, a cash problem or a lawyer’s advice, nobody outside the company can say. I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

Three food trucks, $60,000, and one email out of Halifax

The other money trail runs east. The same group’s Halifax edition packed thousands into Citadel Hill’s Garrison Grounds from 6 to 9 August. CBC News reported on 24 September that three food truck owners say they’re owed a combined total of more than $60,000 from it. We covered that vendor side when the CBC story broke. One operator chasing payment was told by email that the festival “cannot provide individual updates on account balances or payment timing”. That is the corporate equivalent of a shrug delivered at volume. CBC said it made repeated attempts to reach both the festival and Trixstar, the production company behind it.

By 9 October, according to CTV, one vendor was posting on Facebook that they are still waiting to be paid more than $28,000. That is a four-day festival’s worth of propane, stock and staff wages sitting on a small operator’s books, and nobody opens a food truck for the thrill of chasing a promoter’s accounts department by Facebook post.

Nothing in the reporting links the Halifax invoices to the Mississauga postponement beyond the promoter they share, and nothing in it suggests the company is insolvent. None of the sources says anything at all about what the booked comedians were paid, for either weekend. I’m leaving that alone rather than guessing: if you want the general picture of how festival money travels down a bill, we wrote that up separately. Unpaid suppliers at one end and unrefunded ticket buyers at the other is a shape working promoters recognise, though, and it isn’t a Canadian speciality. We’ve run two versions of it this autumn. One is a US comedy producer left out of pocket after a theatre closed; the other is a British venue warning about its own finances.

Still no date, and a page that says stay tuned

So here is the complete set of commitments a Mississauga ticket holder currently has, in the festival’s own words, as of 17 October. It is exploring new dates, and it will be back with an update as soon as it has one. Buyers should stay tuned, and it will follow up directly. That is four separate promises to communicate, without a calendar date or a dollar figure among them.

If a new weekend does get announced, the policy says the existing tickets travel to it. That makes the whole festival refund argument moot for anyone still happy to go. The people who booked a sitter, a hotel or a flight for 12 September are in a different position, and the published terms do not address them at all. The festival page is a tidier read than most postponement notices, which is less of a compliment than it sounds. Meanwhile the heading on it is still Festival Postponement, and the clause about postponing headliners to future festival dates is still sitting in the refund policy a couple of clicks away. Brenna Oude-Reimerink’s two VIP passes are still worth $394 and still good for a show with no day of the week.

Sources

CTV News Toronto / CP24, 11 October 2026: ‘Radio silent’: Fans still waiting on refunds a month after comedy festival in Mississauga was postponed

Great Outdoors Comedy Festival: Festival Postponement – Mississauga

Great Outdoors Comedy Festival: Refund Policy

CBC News, 24 September 2026: Comedy festival packed Citadel Hill, but vendors say it didn’t pay the bills

Booking a comedy night? Post your gig on Open Comedy for free and comedians near you can apply with video clips.
