The Chris Cantrill Rewilding tour announcement appeared on 10 September, putting Rewilding into Soho Downstairs from 23 November before the road run begins in Selby on 3 March 2027. That’s 24 performances currently carrying dates, plus Edinburgh and Wales still waiting to be filled in.

The number worth separating from the diary is £10,000, the Best Comedy Show prize Cantrill won at the 2026 Edinburgh Comedy Awards. The cheque and the bookings sit in the same chronology, with no published link between them. Tours aren’t bought like a multipack of socks, and none of the published material says where the prize money is going.

The prize cheque came first

The Fringe’s official awards page names Rewilding as Best Show and puts the prize at £10,000. Marty Gleeson won Best Newcomer with Dog Ear, carrying £5,000, while the Panel Prize went to One Joke. That last show puts 60 comedians through one joke apiece. It sounds less like a running order than something a tired stage manager sees after eating cheese.

This was Cantrill’s fourth Best Show nomination. The previous three comprised two nominations with Amy Gledhill as The Delightful Sausage, in 2019 and 2022. A solo nomination followed in 2024; Gledhill won the main award that year. By the time the result arrived, the industry wasn’t being asked to learn a new name from scratch.

The field he beat was unusually concentrated. As our look at the six Best Show nominees found, every one played either a Monkey Barrel or Pleasance room. Rewilding had the 12.10pm slot in Monkey Barrel Comedy’s Tron room. At that hour, several comics are still locating yesterday’s lanyard.

Nica Burns, director of the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, and executive director Emma Brünjes described the result in the official announcement:

In Chris and Marty we have two outstanding winners…

The dates following the award include a London residency, a route through club rooms and arts centres, and one city where the ticket link hasn’t arrived yet. Cantrill’s calendar currently shows 11 Soho Downstairs performances and 13 dated road stops.

When and where is Chris Cantrill touring Rewilding?

The Chris Cantrill Rewilding tour includes 11 Soho Theatre shows from 23 November to 5 December 2026, excluding 29 and 30 November. A 13-stop UK tour then runs from Selby on 3 March to Glasgow on 24 April 2027. Soho tickets are already bookable through the theatre; the original tour announcement said most road links would be live from 10 September.

The dated route is Selby Town Hall on 3 March; The Stand, Newcastle on 4 March; The Witham in Barnard Castle on 5 March; Hull Truck Theatre on 6 March. It continues with Oxford Glee on 10 March; Bristol’s Wardrobe Theatre on 11 March; The Attic in Southampton on 12 March; Birmingham Glee on 13 March; Leicester Firebug on 14 March. The final listed dates are Chorley Theatre on 23 March; The Wardrobe in Leeds on 24 March; Manchester’s Fairfield Social Club on 25 March; and The Stand, Glasgow on 24 April.

That itinerary gives the show arts centres, purpose-built comedy clubs, theatre rooms and Firebug, the Leicester pub. Its upstairs get-in has introduced many performers to the ancient touring ritual of carrying a case past somebody’s pint. There are also two Wardrobes in six days, which should keep at least one hotel receptionist entertained.

Don’t read the list as every ticket being available now. Beyond The Joke’s announcement said Hull’s link would follow in October. Edinburgh dates in April and dates in Wales remained to be confirmed. Those additions aren’t included in the 13-stop count. Hull train plans can wait for the actual ticket page, before anybody becomes emotionally involved with an advance fare.

The £19 seat includes four quid of fees

Full-price Soho seats currently run from £19 to £26, depending on the performance and seating band. The displayed amount includes a £2 restoration levy and a £2 booking fee. The price on the page is therefore the price being presented to the buyer. After a Fringe spent explaining why mandatory booking fees now belong in advertised prices, Soho’s wording is refreshingly difficult to misunderstand.

The cheaper tickets are restricted view. That’s useful information at £19, where the four pounds of levies and fees account for more than a fifth of the displayed amount. A buyer deciding between bands can see the real difference before checkout, without discovering a compulsory charge after choosing the seat and giving it a pet name.

Oxford supplies the clearest road-date price so far. The Glee Club lists its 10 March performance at £17.25 plus a £2.75 per-ticket booking fee, making £20 for admission. Seating is unallocated and the minimum age is 16. It’s a tidy comparison with Soho, although ticket price alone tells us nothing about Cantrill’s settlement after venue costs and whatever deal sits behind the booking.

I’m leaving projected gross revenue alone. A proper total would require capacities, saleable allocations, complimentary seats and the act’s venue splits, details missing from any calculation based on the top ticket and every chair visible on a fire-plan PDF. The confirmed money is the £10,000 award cheque; calling it tour finance would be fan fiction with a calculator.

A tree, custard and the late slot

Rewilding is a comic mystery about a rural borderlands community reacting after a beloved local tree is cut down at night. Soho’s listing describes community, vengeance and custard, with an outsider determined to make the vandalism about himself. Tom Parry directs. The package-signing in the show description may be the most precise depiction of village life on a London theatre page.

Every Soho performance begins at 9.15pm in Soho Downstairs and runs for 60 minutes, with a 16-plus recommendation. The 2 December show will be live captioned by Claire Hill. Soho warns that restricted-view seats won’t have a view of the captioning screen, a small sentence that matters rather more than six enthusiastic review adjectives.

The residency sits in a late slot after Paul Foot’s The Future, which plays the same room at 7.15pm. For Cantrill, it means repeating the Edinburgh hour for an audience that deliberately bought his ticket; on the Royal Mile, rain coming in sideways can make the choice for people. That distinction is worth watching across 11 nights, especially once the first-week award curiosity has met the second-week Tuesday.

The separate ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards paid every attending Best Show and Best Newcomer nominee £100 after Garry Starr added £1,600 to its fund. Cantrill’s prize came from the main Edinburgh Comedy Awards, a different operation with a different shortlist and cheque. Festival award names multiply faster than dressing-room teaspoons, so the distinction earns the extra sentence.

Sources

Edinburgh Festival Fringe award winners and prize amounts

Edinburgh Comedy Awards winners’ announcement

Beyond The Joke tour announcement and itinerary

Soho Theatre dates, access information and prices

The Glee Club Oxford listing

The source list runs from prize money to booking fees, so the lanyard can stay in yesterday’s coat.

Related reading

UK comics are down to 2.5 gigs a week as 14 tours launch at once

Fringe says no to moving 2027, schools go back on 18 August

Fringe artist fund falls to £40,000 and comics top up the prizes

At 9.15pm on 23 November, the first London audience gets the beloved tree in Soho Downstairs.
