At 10am on Friday the ballot for a seat inside Britain’s only live network sketch show opened. The thing standing between you and studio TC1 is a Microsoft Forms link. Sky’s announcement puts it flatly: applications open “from 10AM on Friday 14 August via TICKET BALLOT”. Chortle, reporting the same announcement on 12 August, noted the application route is a Microsoft Forms page. That’s the software your employer uses for fire-safety refreshers, now recruiting the laughter bed for Sky’s most talked about show of the year.<\/p>\n
The rest of the announcement is the bit working comics have been asking about since the spring, when Sky ordered a bigger second series. Series two of SNL UK starts on Saturday 12 September on Sky and NOW, and every single performer is coming back.<\/p>\n
Saturday 12 September, on Sky and NOW, with six live episodes on 12, 19 and 26 September and 10, 17 and 24 October. There’s no show on 3 October. Chortle reports the run then resumes with six more in early 2027, which squares with the 12 episodes Sky commissioned back in May. Audience tickets come from the ballot that opened at 10am on Friday 14 August. The release doesn’t say what an audience ticket costs, whether there’s a minimum age, or how many seats go per show. I’m not going to guess at any of those numbers.<\/p>\n
Wikipedia’s page for the show lists it as made at Television Centre in London, in TC1, with BBC Studioworks providing the studios and post-production. I enjoy that detail more than I should. The BBC spent this summer axing Live at the Apollo<\/a>, then rented its old building to the American format. That format replaced the Saturday-night noise the BBC used to make itself. The same page records series one as eight episodes, extended from six on 20 March 2026, the day before it launched.<\/p>\n Sky’s wording leaves no room for a quiet trim: “Returning for the new series are all 11 members of the inaugural cast.” Those eleven are Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young. For a repertory sketch show in its second year, keeping the whole eleven is the unusual choice, and it means the fight for screen time gets settled in the writers’ room instead of at a casting call. Eleven cast members plus a host and a musical guest, across one live show, works out at not many minutes each, which is the sort of sum people do in a corridor rather than in a meeting.<\/p>\n The change that actually matters sits behind the camera. Chortle reports Laura Claxton has been elevated to co-head writer alongside Daran ‘Jonno’ Johnson, who was already head writer on series one, and Sinead Oldnall has been appointed director of onscreen talent. If you’re a jobbing sketch writer or a club act hoping a tape lands somewhere useful, Oldnall’s is the appointment worth reading twice. Sky’s host announcements in September will get the headlines, and none of them will tell you who’s actually watching the tapes.<\/p>\n Bamgboye’s route in is the one every newcomer at the Fringe is quietly studying. She won NextUp’s inflatable-trophy award<\/a> in 2025, then took the Edinburgh Comedy Award for best newcomer, then joined the inaugural cast. Chortle quotes her on the NextUp win: “It’s been one of the greatest honours of my life, I’ll never stop saying thank you to NextUp.” Larry Dean, meanwhile, is on the bill for Underbelly’s eighth Big Brain Tumour Benefit at McEwan Hall on Wednesday 19 August at 7pm. Also on it: Nish Kumar, Rhys James, Rosie Jones, Catherine Bohart, Emmanuel Sonubi, Felicity Ward and Justin Moorhouse. The NEN’s write-up spells out where the money goes: “All box office income (less VAT and commissions) will be donated to Professor Richard Gilbertson’s Lab at The Cancer Research Centre in Cambridge”. The money funds new treatments for the most aggressive forms of brain tumours in children, and those benefits have raised over \u00a3200,000 to date.<\/p>\n Series one’s overnight numbers are the reason people assumed a cast cull was coming. LateNighter’s May report has the arc: “SNL UK debuted March 21 to 226,000 total viewers in the overnights, a healthy tally for Sky One that bested rival Channel 4’s broadcast of a Mission Impossible flick.” By the end: “The Ncuti Gatwa-hosted May 16 finale, alas, faced off against the Eurovision final (which claimed nearly 6 million viewers). It in turn dropped 56 percent, to a series low of 86K.” Scheduling a live comedy show opposite Eurovision is a decision somebody made in a meeting, and I’d love to have been in it.<\/p>\n Lead producer James Longman pointed LateNighter at clips racking up “over 20 million views on socials” instead, and was not remotely apologetic:<\/p>\n “As far as I’m concerned, we are doing exactly what we should be doing, and the feedback from Sky is that they’re absolutely thrilled with us, and they’re supporting us. We’re ticking boxes, and we’re part of the conversation. We just need to keep being funny.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Sky’s own executives had already made the same argument in the renewal release. Phil Edgar Jones, executive director of unscripted originals at Sky, said: “SNL UK is Sky’s most talked about show of the year. It’s now firmly part of the cultural conversation.” Lorne Michaels, executive producer, added: “I’m incredibly proud of our team and the show. It keeps getting better every week.” Read those next to an 86,000 finale and you can see the metric the recommission was argued on. The producers are UTAS UK and Broadway Video. Those six broadcast dates are all Saturdays, and Saturday is the night a club can actually charge for. Eleven performers are committed to a live show in west London on 12, 19 and 26 September and 10, 17 and 24 October. (White City parking on a Saturday night being what it is, I assume most of them are arriving by tube.) Any promoter who had pencilled Larry Dean, Ania Magliano, Paddy Young, George Fouracres or Emma Sidi into a weekend headline slot has been quietly re-booking since Wednesday. Rehearsal weeks for a live sketch show eat the days either side, too. That’s why the Friday nights around those dates tend to go the same way.<\/p>\n That’s six weekends of the country’s most bookable sketch-adjacent stand-ups off the market. It lands at the exact point in the autumn when clubs are trying to rebuild after a flat August. The compensating news is that TV is still opening doors elsewhere: Have A Word is filming eight Apollo-style shows and taking pitches<\/a>. The Fringe end of the ladder keeps paying out in four-figure prizes<\/a> rather than fees.<\/p>\n If you want to be in the room, the ballot’s open and there’s no queue to stand in, which makes it a free punt on the hottest studio ticket of the autumn. Sky hasn’t said how many forms it has already received, and I doubt it’s about to. Somewhere on a Sky server there’s now a spreadsheet of everyone in Britain who fancied a Saturday night in TC1, sitting in the same software that handles the fire-safety refreshers.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nEleven names and nobody got cut<\/h2>\n
